Gefährliches Hickory?

Anfang letzter Woche waren wir abends bei Atlanta Bread eine Suppe essen und saßen draußen. Ich schrieb hier im Blog darüber (http://unserlebenindenusa.blogspot.com/2012/03/drauen-sitzen-bei-atlanta-bread.html).

Gestern abend ist da das Unfassbare passiert: Atlanta Bread schließt Sonntags um 7 Uhr abends und um ca. 7:45 Uhr haben vier bewaffnete Männer das Lokal überfallen. Sie kamen durch eine nicht abgeschlossene Hintertür und verlangten Geld, das ihnen auch gegeben wurde und verschwanden wieder, ohne daß irgendjemand verletzt wurde...

Okay, es ist nicht weit weg von uns, aber ich bin jetzt eigentlich nicht besorgter als vorher... In unserer deutschen Heimat gab es in der Nähe auch mehrere Banküberfälle usw. Man muß überall vorsichtig sein! Wir sind froh, daß keinem etwas passiert ist...

HICKORY NC --

Hickory police are searching for the four gunmen who robbed the Atlanta Bread Bakery Café at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

The restaurant, at the corner of Catawba Valley and Robinson Road, had closed for the night at 7 p.m. when the four men got inside through an unlocked back door. Three employees were still inside at the time and were performing their closing duties, said Sgt. Robert George of the Hickory Police Department.

The thieves brandished their hand guns and made threats as they demanded cash. The employees cooperated and gave the gunmen an undisclosed amount of money. As soon as they’d gotten what they wanted, the thieves left the way they’d come, George said.

No one was injured during the robbery.

The victims told police the robbers wore gray hooded sweatshirts pulled tight around their faces. They may have been wearing masks underneath. The gunmen are between 5 feet 8 inches tall and 5 feet 11 inches tall and wore loose fitting clothing during the heist.

The frightened employees waited in the restaurant’s office for a number of minutes before they called 911, George said.

“From the time the call went out, our officers were here in under a minute,” George said.

When the police arrived, they set up a perimeter and called in a K-9 Unit to try to track the thieves. The dog failed to pick up the trail. Other officers went to surrounding businesses in search of surveillance footage that may have caught the getaway on tape. They came up empty. As the patrol officers worked to find leads, investigators interviewed the victims.

“The investigation is ongoing,” George said. “Some details still need to be ironed out.”
